The Standard Book of Spells
Volume X
VOL•YOOM ECKS
As chosen by you, the final eight spells of the Standard Book of Spells collection will be on your dashboard VERY soon!
The Standard Book of Spells
Wingardium Leviosa
WIN•GAR•DEE•UM LEV•EE•OH•SA (NOT WIN•GAR•DEE•UM LEV•EE•OH•SAR)
The Hover Charm quite simply levitates objects. It is incanted with a ‘swish and flick’ motion of the wand, and the pronunciation MUST be perfect, placing specific emphasis on the ‘GAR’ and ‘OH’ phonemes.
The Standard Book of Spells
Vipera Evanesca
VIYP•ER•UH EHV•UHN•EHS•KUH
The counter-spell to Serpensortia, Vipera Evanesca does not simply ‘vanish’ a conjured snake, instead making it burn from its head and tail until it reaches the centre, reduced to ashes.
The Standard Book of Spells
Undetectable Extension Charm
Pronunciation Unknown
When cast on a container object (such as a bag, flask or bottle), the capacity of said object is increased, without changing the exterior appearance. Muggles do not understand the concept of this spell fully, but it has been hinted at in their media. For example, a character known as ‘The Doctor’ travels in a box which has the Undetectable Extension Charm placed upon it, making it look bigger on the inside.
The Standard Book of Spells
Verdimillious
VERD•EE•MIL•EE•US
Depending on the speed of the spell being cast, Verdimillious has a variety of effects. Firstly, if casted very fast, green lights will hurtle towards a target, exploding near them, causing green sparks to hurt the victim. Secondly, and potentially more useful to the Ministry of Magic, when allowed to build up in the caster’s wand, the spell engulfs the room with green light, allowing objects that are hidden by Dark Magic to temporarily be revealed.
The Standard Book of Spells
Unbreakable Vow
Pronunciation Unknown
The Unbreakable Vow is a magical incantation in which one wizard makes an oath to another. If the oath is broken, the consequence to the agreeing party is death. To create an Unbreakable Vow, two wizards must stand facing each other, holding hands, with a third wizard, designated ‘Bonder’ who will cast the spell. Upon consent of the Vow, a tongue of fire wraps around the hands of the wizards.
The Standard Book of Spells
Tergeo
TER•JEE•OH
This spell is used to siphon spilt matter from a surface, such as blood, ink or dust. This is the magical equivalent of the vacuum cleaner.
The Standard Book of Spells
Taboo
Unknown Pronunciation
This is a jinx which may be placed upon any word or name, so that whenever that word is spoken, a magical disturbance is created which alerts the caster of the Taboo to the location of the speaker. Any protective enchantments in effect around the speaker(s) are broken when the Tabooed word is spoken aloud. During the Second Wizarding War, in 1997, a Taboo was placed on Lord Voldemort’s name, in an attempt to find supporters of Harry Potter.
