The Standard Book of Spells is far from standard. Documenting almost every single spell used in the Harry Potter books, films and games, this collection gives an animated insight into the logic behind the magic. Enjoy!

The Standard Book of SpellsUndetectable Extension CharmPronunciation UnknownWhen cast on a container object (such as a bag, flask or bottle), the capacity of said object is increased, without changing the exterior appearance. Muggles do not understand the concept of this spell fully, but it has been hinted at in their media. For example, a character known as ‘The Doctor’ travels in a box which has the Undetectable Extension Charm placed upon it, making it look bigger on the inside.

The Standard Book of SpellsVerdimilliousVERD•EE•MIL•EE•USDepending on the speed of the spell being cast, Verdimillious has a variety of effects. Firstly, if casted very fast, green lights will hurtle towards a target, exploding near them, causing green sparks to hurt the victim. Secondly, and potentially more useful to the Ministry of Magic, when allowed to build up in the caster’s wand, the spell engulfs the room with green light, allowing objects that are hidden by Dark Magic to temporarily be revealed.

The Standard Book of SpellsUnbreakable VowPronunciation UnknownThe Unbreakable Vow is a magical incantation in which one wizard makes an oath to another. If the oath is broken, the consequence to the agreeing party is death. To create an Unbreakable Vow, two wizards must stand facing each other, holding hands, with a third wizard, designated ‘Bonder’ who will cast the spell. Upon consent of the Vow, a tongue of fire wraps around the hands of the wizards.

The Standard Book of SpellsTabooUnknown PronunciationThis is a jinx which may be placed upon any word or name, so that whenever that word is spoken, a magical disturbance is created which alerts the caster of the Taboo to the location of the speaker. Any protective enchantments in effect around the speaker(s) are broken when the Tabooed word is spoken aloud. During the Second Wizarding War, in 1997, a Taboo was placed on Lord Voldemort’s name, in an attempt to find supporters of Harry Potter.

Now that the identity of every single spell in the Standard Book of Spells volumes have been published/announced, it’s time for you all to get involved. As you know, creating spells has been a fun way to spend my time, but I have had to miss out some of the lesser known/repeated spells (for example, I didn’t create every incarnation of ‘Protego’, as it would become repetitive and boring). However, I’ve decided that I will be publishing just ONE more volume to the collection. This one will be known as Volume ‘X’. It is your job to decide which spells should be added to the final volume; the seven or eight with the most nominations will be selected. To help you make up your mind, head over to the Harry Potter Spells page, the place where I sourced all information about the spells featured in the volumes. Remember, you have one chance to voice your opinion, so use it well! Once you’ve chosen the spell(s) for you, post your choices below.I’ll be checking back on this post in a few days to find out which spells made the cut. Good luck, and thank you very much!Which spells do YOU want to see?
